The Story of Leon Schuster

Email us your story about
Leon and we will add it to our site.

Joseph “Leon” Schuster

Well where do we begin.

I guess no better place than the start.

Arrived 10th May, 1971 at Gold Coast Hospital.

I guess we could say that his life was already mapped out for him on this day but it was for him to make it happen and to make it matter, and he sure achieved this.

His life was just cut far too short.   However if you take a  look at all that he crammed into his 34 years that he was here with us then he actually accomplished more than a lot of people do so in their whole lifetime.

He touched a lot of people in his short life and I am sure that everyone will remember him in there own way but these ways will all be pretty much the same:  generous, caring, a joker, hardworking, inspiring, loyal, great sense of humour but most of all just a great guy.

He started his lighting company from a small shed at his parent’s house at Tallebudgera Valley in 1991 with just a few par cans and not much else and made it into what it was up until 2005.  He was extremely proud of his company and how it had grown but also very modest about it at the same time.

These isn’t a lot that we can say about Leon that all of us don’t already know it is just unfair that he is not here today as he had so much more to give and experience in his life.  He was extremely passionate about both his work and his family.  He however still has a strong presence here in his two young children that he left behind.  His daughter Libby even at such a young age is definitely him all over and carries his same spark, zest for life and fearless attitude.

He was a son, brother, husband, father, brother in law, son in law, uncle, best friend, and mate but really he was just himself which is what was best about him.

He will always be remembered and never forgotten as we all hold our own special memories of our time spent with him…

Eulogy for Leon Schuster
by Leigh Greig

It is with enormous respect that I attempt to convey my feelings and experiences of Leon who epitomized the humble human being despite the enormous success he achieved through his lighting endeavors. It was his trademark and it caused people who came in contact with him to like and love him.

When writing this eulogy so many images played over in my mind about Leon and his lighting career. He and I came into contact a number of times over the years on a wide range of jobs.

It is the inspirational example that Leon exuded by seeking out the toughest of challenges and living life to the max that endeared him to so many people. It was although there were never enough hours in a day for Leon who would work incredibly long hours and still find time for his beloved family and the fulfilment of his dreams. We take comfort in the fact that Leon celebrated life.

I feel privileged to have known Leon and be a part of his dreams. He was always a pleasure to work with and along side of because he had honesty and integrity.

And from a commercial side Leon did so much to promote his supporters and both the film and entertainment lighting industries in Australia . We have certainly lost a great ambassador.

It somehow seams unreal that we must say goodbye to our friend; a great man who has inspired and led by the example of humility.

Rest in peace my friend.
